Fantastic classic fragrance
After selling my EDT, I recently bought the pure parfum and I'm very glad I did. This is such an opulent, regal perfume which aims to recreate the kind of smells you'd experience at a ball during the 17th century among the richest and highest class of society. There's so many notes in here that it's very hard to pick out specifics, but there are a few that stand out from the rest. This without a doubt is an animalic amber fragrance at heart, and a strong one at that. A sharp and slightly sour note of civet is paired with beautifully deep resins, tolu balsam and benzoin which is incredibly warming and luxurious. There's also heady musk and dark leather which lives throughout the scent - this is all balanced perfectly with an array of soft, powdery florals such as orris, rose and ylang with a touch of creamy sandalwood and earthy patchouli. I much prefer this to the EDT, it's so much more rounded, refined and the florals seem to be a lot more noticeable instead of simply being a civet bomb. This is one of the most renowned classics in perfumery and is so well respected by perfumers all across the world today for a very good reason. This is the pinnacle of vintage-style perfumery, a true masterpiece and one of the most multi-faceted fragrances I've ever smelled. Absolutely wonderful.

Always The Ball since College in the '70s
Tiniest dab of perfume at base of neck and wrists, that's all you need. It will melt into you and you won't even notice it but it will envelope your body and soul. It doesn't work on everyone though, or maybe they use too much.

The bottle had leaked into the packaging and was almost empty on arrival. I complained (ticket # 2180267) and was asked send photographs of the problem, which I did and was the asked to return the package - which I did as well. Since then I have complained again (ticket #2202646) but have received no reply or message from FrangranceX. How long does it take to agree that the bottle has leaked is empty?

DELIGHTFUL SCENT - A CLASSIC
Have been using Bal à Versailles since the 1970s. Always get compliments. It's very expensive, but fully worth it. An enchanting scent that can be appreciated at all ages.

I would recommend this product and buy it again
I first used Bal A V nearly 40 years ago. It doesn't smell quite as I remember it, but I still love it all the same. The packaging is, of course, classical and it just looks expensive, though I don't believe it is. It isn't easy to come by in English stores and I am delighted to have found a reliable source. I think it is a 'woman's' perfume rather than one for girls. I am 71, so definitely not a girl! I will buy more from you at a future date. Thank you.

I am not sure about this product
It is a very distinctive perfume that I used when I was in my twenties and the memory of its intoxicating scent stayed with me for decades. Now 30 years later it is just not the same. The scent is not as oriental, not as spicy and nowhere near as deep. I don't know if the composition of the perfume itself has changed or maybe I have, but I am not sure I would buy it again. Maybe the past cant be recaptured.

No regrets with this old classic
For most people this might be an evening scent, but I quite like it as my signature scent. It is mature and distinctive. I also like that there is an almost certainly unintended androgyny about it, which I think is perfect for the woman who is very clear about who she is, unafraid of transcending the conventionally understood male gaze (or whatever the olfactory version of that is), and ready to claim a version of femininity that - like a good single malt scotch - gets better with age.

Since the 70's I've been in love with elegant fragrance. I never wanted to wear what "everyone was wearing " Bal a Versailles, is not for everyone. It's very intense and heady. Floral but woody, most the old scroll fragrance houses are changing and I understand but I do love these tried and true scents.

Vintage charm
This is similar to other fragrances I use, but on me, it takes a detour to the sweeter/floral side. Burberry Brit has been my 'going shopping' scent for the last year and this is quite similar, but this gets a bit more sweet/floral on me. I didn't like it when I first opened it, but within a week, it was one of my favorites.

Rediscovered an Old Friend
Many years ago someone gave me a bottle of Bal a Versailles and I loved it. Then, when the bottle was empty, I forgot about it. At the time I could not buy expensive perfumes. I rediscovered it here and ordered a small bottle. I love it just as much now as I did many years ago. I have my own "signature scent," but this makes a nice change from time to time.

Gorgeous perfume
Bal a Versailles is a beautifully composed fragrance that reveals intriguing notes from the citrus honeyed opening, then floral notes come to the fore and finally the most enchanting woody earthy notes even out every element. The sillage is soft but apparent and the fragrance is incredibly long lasting even in EDT form. It is a real joy to wear & as alluring as my all time favourite Yveresse EDP.

I started to wear this in 1962 and love it still.
My favortie perfume. I have used many other scents, but this is the one that I think of as "mine". The first time I smelled it I thought that if one discovered a trunk of gowns packed away in Versailles and opened the lid ... it wouldn't dare smell musty, it would smell like this perfume. Candlelight, rare scents from the Orient, face powder, and flowers.
